This entire portfolio was hand-coded without the use of any templates, interface frameworks, or copy/pasted code snippets. It's a work in progress that will be changed over time to apply the latest techniques.

Birds of the Sierra Nevada
This Angular.js web-app is a work in progress to learn Angular while also studying the top birds found in the Sierra Nevada. A list view and detail view include common name, scientific name, frequency rank, photo, songs, calls, and 4-letter species code.
The frequency stats and species are based on data compiled by the Institute for Bird Populations, pulled from their database in 2014. I filtered the species codes, scientific names, etc of only the Top 100 species in the Sierra Nevada from CSV into a JSON file. Eventually, I plan to transfer this information and personal study data to a database.
Still collecting images and audio, so there are some blanks. Also still working on Angular features and the app overall. Eventually I would like this to be a full-fledged Quiz app w/database to add or track how well you have learned your birds! All images are as credited; all audio is used under a Creative Commons license from the MacCauley Library at the Cornell Lab for Ornithology.

This site replaced an older landing page that had been built with XHTML and table-based layout. The new site is HTML5, CSS3, some jQuery, and is fully responsive on mobile, tablet, and desktop browsers. My final design is here. The final page is online at rapport.dliflc.edu

Japanese Language Survival Kit
This app uses public domain content from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Listen to and read more than 1,000 Japanese phrases spanning categories relating to military operations and basic survival-level language tasks. Originally written in Obj-C and designed for iOS7, it works up through iOS10. Plan to rewrite in Swift, as well as add CoreData and other functionality. Github Project Repo
-
Cheers Mate
Learn to say "Cheers" in a dozen languages with cultural hints and information. Initially a simple class project in Obj-C, this app is being redesigned for iOS10 in the Swift language.
-
Kana Yome
This app for a class project presents characters from the Japanese Hiragana and Katakana alphabets, along with example words and pronunciation guide. This project may be combined with the Japanese LSK above to form a more comprehensive language learning app.

Print Graphics
- Graphic Design
Custom Cards and Photo Illustrations
At Globemonkey we really enjoy creating custom graphic design work for print or online use. Could be a greeting card, holiday newsletter, t-shirt for your friend's new baby, or whatever you need. This is the fun stuff!
Whether you need Photoshop to add/remove something from an image, or a custom Illustrator graphic for a t-shirt, we can handle it! Send a note from the About page and we can get started!
- Page Layout
eBooks, Newsletters, Brochures
Globemonkey still has a softspot for actual printed material. I'm totally comfortable working in traditional page layout programs to create email-sized or print-ready PDFs of newsletters and magazines. Or, I can use new tools like iBooks Author to create interactive experiences. The iBooks project below is available from iTunes here.
User Experience & Interface Design

Wireframes and Mockups
Globemonkey can create low- and high-fidelity wireframes for phones, tablets, and desktop sites. I prefer a "mobile first" mindset, not only for its practical use on small screens, but for the focus and refinements it allows, stripping away all but the most essential priorities. Equally comfortable creating grayscale Illustrator wireframes, or animated After Effects videos to demonstrate user flows and interaction.

Prototypes and Usability Testing
I can create working minimal prototypes to put in front of prospective users early so you don't waste time or money heading down the wrong path. Balsamiq, InVision, Illustrator, Photoshop, Keynote, some other tool, or paper and markers - the point is to test ideas and iterate until you eliminate as many unknowns as possible.
